| Dames's has been the perfect place to pull
over, put down our backpacks and guidebooks and take out our seasonal
work permits. We've been fortunate to have a caravan right on the
orchard and so were never late for work!! After two weeks of apple
packing and stacking we certainly know our apples. Next time
around we will both be up for a spot of picking out in the
beautiful orchards.
Since driving here, everyone has been very friendly and welcoming to
us 'out of towners' in the characteristic kiwi way.
Dames's location has been ideal, right between Havelock North and
Hastings and has given us a good opportunity to explore the area in our
spare time, not to mention a 20 minute walk to the pub!!!
There are the gorgeous Ocean and Waimarama beaches and a whole load
of great wineries right on the doorstep all offering plenty of free
tastings. Bike riding from the Havelock information centre is an
easy way to visit the wineries and if you are too wobbly to come home
there is always the offer of a free pick up.
